The Ultimate Warming Wellness Water

With winter around the corner, the last thing I want after crawling out from under my comfy warm blanket is something cold in my belly – even if it’s one of my beloved cold-pressed juices!  During the colder months, I tend to save these for a bit later in the morning, after warming up with a mug of my Ultimate Warming Wellness Water, a nutrient-packed mocktail filled with antioxidants and detoxifiers.

Now, I’m sure you’ve heard all about the benefits of drinking warm water with lemon juice.  According to Dr David Jockers, sipping it first thing in the morning can be one of the kindest things you can do for your body.  Rich in vitamin C, it provides an immune system boost to help ward off pesky colds.  It also gets your digestive juices flowing and, funnily enough, is one of the most alkalising foods you’ll ever find!  But by adding just a few more ingredients to your cuppa, you can quickly and easily make this warm drink even more powerful:

Ginger

According to a recent study by the International Journal of Preventative Medicine, this natural anti-inflammatory has been known to reduce muscle pain after intense physical activity as well as improve cardiovascular and gastrointestinal health.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Health and Wellness author Sarah Wilson says it’s perfect for helping your body maintain a healthy pH level.  Its alkalising effect can help detoxify the liver and even cleanses the digestive system.

Manuka Honey

The star of the show!  This delicious, nutritious pot of gold has unique antibacterial properties that don’t lose potency when exposed to dilution, heat or light.

Cinnamon

According to a recent study, daily intake of cinnamon can help lower blood sugar and total cholesterol

Cayenne Pepper

Wellness practitioner and teacher Dr Edward Group says cayenne pepper is a natural anti-inflammatory which stimulates digestion and acts as a natural decongestant.

Imagine starting your day with all that goodness!  You may find that some of these ingredients can have a very strong flavour that needs getting used to, so try introducing them slowly or cut the measurements in half for a few days.  Adding a little bit more Manuka Honey can also help by adding a bit more sweetness!  Here’s the recipe I use:

 

The Ultimate Warming Wellness Water

Ingredients:

  • 1 large mug of hand-hot water
  • 1/3 tsp fresh ginger, skinned and finely grated
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • Dash of cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp of Comvita UMF®10+ Manuka Honey
  • Dash of cayenne pepper

 

Briskly stir together, sip slowly and enjoy.  Remember to chew any pieces of ginger to ensure that as much energy as possible is absorbed into your body.
